Masdevallia Temperature Guide
Warm growing temperatures
Plants in this range are found growing at altitudes of about 400m to 1500m above sea level.
A night time low of about 60f(15.5c)
with a daytime rise to about 70f (21c)
Intermediate growing temperatures
Plants in this range are found growing at altitudes of about 1500m to 2500m above sea level.
A night time low of about 50f (10c)
with a day time rise to about 60f(15.5)
Cool growing temperatures
Plants in this range are found growing at altitudes of over 2500m and up to about 3600m above sea level.
A night time low of about 40f (4.5c)
with a day time rise to about 50f (10c)
The temperatures above should be used as a general guide line only, they reflect the altitude at which the plant was found growing but it is almost impossible to stick to the exact temperature slots.
Thankfully most plants will tolerate variations.
In all cases the maximum high temperature is about 80 f and the humidity level should be at least 50% at all times, higher if possible.
The above is taken from the book An A-Z of Masdevallias by Sue Skittrell.
The above I agree, but have personally found that the higher temperature of 80f can be very difficult to achieve at times in summer, my greenhouse has had a maximum high of 90 f-95 f. But the humidity is kept to acceptable levels with a hydrofogger to compensate, so there is no adverse effect on the plants. So as Sue Skittrell has stated plants can withstand variations, and I will add; as long as extremes are not pushed too much!.
